This index is designed to be used in conjunction with the 1861 edition of the Census of Oxford County. The census microfilm reel C-1060 can be obtained via inter-library loan.
The microfilm is designed to so that all schedules for each district are brought together as a unit. The inclusion of age, occupation, birthplace, religion, marital status as well as a list of the deaths which have occurred with in the last twelve months are all part of the index.
Information on houses, livestock, number of acres, public institutions and other information pertaining more directly to their society history, is also included in the census.
Each family group appears as it did in the census, including all family members, and stray surnames.
The page number is included for easy reference to the page in the Census Roll microfilm, where additional information may be obtained.
The comment column lists non-family members or those who were absent on Census Day.
Researchers should check variations of spelling. Those familiar with the original handwritten documents will appreciate the extreme difficulty of deciphering the names. Our apologies to any family whose name has been misspelled.
